A local American Legion Post is celebrating 100 years of existence with a free weekend event in Jefferson.
The American Legion Floyd W. Brown Post 11 is sponsoring a free movie called “Sergeant Stubby: An American Hero” at the Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson August 3rd through the 5th. Post Commander Jim Andrew says they wanted to thank the community for all of their years of support to their organization with the movie screening.
The movie is a true story about a dog who was a stow away with a New York infantry during World War I in France. The dog saved lots of military lives using his unique senses and was the first to be made a noncommissioned officer in the US Army. The free showings will be at 7pm this Friday through Sunday, with an additional showing at 2pm on Sunday. Concessions will be made available for purchase. The free movie is on a first come, first served basis.
