The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
Assistant County Attorney Tim Benton and Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright addressed the Board on the proposal from Shive Hattery for phase one of the needs assessment on the County Jail. Benton reviewed the proposal and made some recommendations on additions to the contract. The additions cover mostly clarifying language to ensure the County would enter into only the first phase of three at this time, and nothing more. The additions also cover proper handling of confidential records accessed during the assessment. The Board approved all changes and those will be sent to Shive Hattery for further approval.
The Board also designated Arganbright as the project’s representative. Arganbright then addressed the Board on his concerns for the jail project. He mentioned state compliance being the driving force behind all requested changes. Additionally, the current jail can’t hold any more females and hasn’t for the past four months. He also said there will be 25 Iowa State Patrol officers to help provide security for this weekend’s River Ruckus in Guthrie Center.
The Board also approved the fiscal year 2018-2019 County Substance Abuse Prevention Services Contract, as well as the end-of-year report from the previous fiscal year’s contract, and a quarterly report from the Veteran Affairs Commission. Facilities Manager Brandon Thompson and Environmental Health Director Jotham Arber concluded the meeting with an update on fencing projects at the County Transfer Station and storm shelter options for the health services department.
