A large crowd gathered at the Perry Municipal Airport Friday morning for a ribbon-cutting event hosted by the Perry Chamber of Commerce for Walter Aviation. However, Owner Jonathon Walter was nowhere to be found.
As attendees soon found out, that was because he was up in a plane getting ready for a ribbon-cutting no one would soon forget. He flew the plane low over a red ribbon suspended above the runway and cut it in one pass, much to the excitement of the crowd. Walter then landed and addressed the audience. He talked about the services Walter Aviation offers, and introduced his staff members. The attendees then gathered around for a more formal ribbon-cutting with Walter handling the giant ceremonial scissors. He then answered some questions, and let everyone take a look at all the planes throughout the airport.
Walter told Raccoon Valley Radio that he was surprised by the large turnout for the event, but pleased with the interest and support shown by the community. He added, he had only practiced the ribbon-cutting-by-plane trick once before, and was happy it worked so well.
