Adair County SheriffA Stuart man was recently sentenced to jail for drug possession.

According to court documents, 57-year-old Andrew Dean Nelson was sentenced to 45 days in the Adair County Jail, with credit for time served, and a fine of $625 for one count of possession of a controlled substance, second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. As part of the guilty plea, the original two counts of possession of a controlled substance-third offense, both Class D Felonies, were lowered to aggravated misdemeanors. The second count was also dropped.

The charges stem from a June 9th incident in Stuart. According to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson was involved in an assault at a home in Stuart. Following a response to the assault, an Adair County Sheriff’s Deputy located a small bag of methamphetamine and a small bag of marijuana on Nelson.

Nelson was also ordered to pay an additional $453.75 in court costs and surcharges.
