Greene County Extension is offering a popular program concerning agriculture and crop land.
The Farmland Leasing meeting will be held on Friday starting at 9am at the Extension office in Jefferson. The three hour workshop will be lead by Extension Farm and Agriculture Business Management Specialist Steve Johnson. Participants will learn how to handle financial challenges with the 2018 crop supply and demand report, along with the cash prices outlook, determining a fair 2019 cash rental rate, the importance of having good tenant and landlord communication, as well as learning how to terminate a lease. Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about the class.
“We’re proud that Iowa State University does give unbiased information. So whether you’re on the landowner side or the tenant-you’re farming the land side-everybody wants to get the best for their money. But yet we don’t want to make anyone go out of business because maybe the prices aren’t fair.”
Cost to participate is $20 per person or $30 per couple. Participants will also receive a 100-page booklet and a variety of handouts. Pre-registration deadline is tomorrow. To sign up, call 386-2138 or stop by the Extension office.
