On Monday, President Donald Trump nominated Circuit Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the latest vacancy on the Supreme Court.
Kavanaugh, a native of Washington D.C., currently serves on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. His past experience includes stints involving President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, President George W. Bush’s recount victory in Florida, and as a clerk for outgoing justice Anthony Kennedy.
Many, both in and out of congress, are skeptical about Kavanaugh’s conservative stances. U.S. Congressman David Young (R) hopes the nominee will have an open mind, should he be approved by the Senate. “I’m just hoping that he keeps an open mind when it comes to cases, he upholds the Constitution, and he doesn’t try to make law or policy from the bench. That’s Congresses role.”
Senator Chuck Grassley, the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, will be leading the confirmation process. Young hopes Kavanaugh will fill the seat by October.
