Greene County will not be playing in next week’s Iowa High School State Softball Tournament, but a team the Rams lost to three times this season will be at Rogers Sports Complex north of Ft. Dodge. Roland-Story (Story City) won the Class 3A Region 3 crown last night with a 3-2 victory in Alleman over North Polk. The Rams went 0-5 against those two Heart of Iowa Activities Conference rivals.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s team lost 5-3 and 7-4 regular season decisions to the Norsemen, then dropped the Region 3 first round contest at Roland last Tuesday by a final of 8-0. The Rams ended the season with a record of eight wins and 19 losses, their second straight with more losses than wins. Prior to 2017, the softball Rams put together nine straight winning seasons that included State Tournament third place finishes in 2014 and ’15.
Faith Davis, Samantha Hardaway, and Laurin Lyons were the only seniors on the team this season.
