The West Central Valley Wildcats pushed past the Logan-Magnolia Panthers Saturday evening in Missouri Valley for a spot in the Class 2A District 16 Semifinal, with a final score of 9-4.
After giving up a run in the top of the 1st, the Wildcats responded with five runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Junior Carson Wadle evened the score at one off an error by the Panther’s second baseman. On the next play, Junior Cole Arnburg blasted a three-run homer to left field, bringing home Sophomore Ismael Leyva and senior Billy Larsen for a 4-1 lead. Freshman Evan Taylor scored what would become the winning run off a wild pitch from LOMA pitcher Joel Richardson.
LOMA got to within two in the top of the 3rd, but they couldn’t overcome the Wildcat defense. Wadle pitched three innings, giving up just two hits and three earned runs in the win. He also scored two additional runs to help the Wildcats advance to the District Semis in Carroll on Tuesday. WCV improves to 12-14 on the season and will face the top seeded Carroll Kuemper Knights, with first pitch set for 7pm.
