Another example of resiliency Tuesday night helped the Panorama Panthers softball team (11-11 overall) advance their season to tonight regional semifinal in Irwin. Panorama dug themselves another large hole against their West Central Activities Conference rivals, the AC/GC Chargers, trailing 5-0 after the top of the first inning. The Panthers, who swept AC/GC during their two-game conference series after falling behind by four or more runs in the first inning, overtook the Charger again in their playoff meeting, 12-11, in eight innings. The victory was the fourth come from behind win for the Panthers this summer after trailing in the first inning, and head softball coach Ryan Nail attributes that to his team staying positive throughout the game. “We really preach the sense of not getting down on ourselves and not letting one mistake turn into multiple mistakes,” Nail said, “You never like to dig yourself into a hole, but when it’s early, you have plenty of chances to come back.”
Panorama’s reward for topping AC/GC for the third time this summer is the chance to play Class 2A No. 2 IKM-Manning this evening in Irwin. Nail admits the Panthers can’t fall behind early in this one. “We know that digging ourselves a hole can’t be done and we have to play a very good game (to advance),” Nail said, “Which we are capable of (playing well). Our season, in our conference specifically, has set us up with a great opportunity to compete.”
