Last night the ACGC baseball team squared off against the Ogden Bulldogs in a pair of West Central Activities Conference matchups. The Chargers entered the contests still searching for their first conference win of the season, and almost got it in game one.
The Chargers fell behind early after the Bulldogs scored three runs in the first three innings. ACGC responded in the bottom of the 4th when senior Quenton Spack drove a double towards the wall, bringing home eighth grader Charlie Crawford from first base. After Ogden added three more in the top of the 5th, the Chargers bolted for four runs in the bottom of the frame. Clayton Wardyn, Avery Wheatley, Garrett Walhovd, and Caden Wardyn all scored to cut the lead to one.
But Bulldog pitching in the final two innings closed the door on the Chargers. Ogden junior Carter Church came in to close the 7th, slamming the door on the gold and black with three consecutive strikeouts on ten pitches. In total the three Ogden pitchers fanned 13 Charger batters and didn’t give up a single walk. The Bulldogs finished off the night with a swift 11-0 victory in game two.
The Bulldogs improve to 14-4 (10-2) with senior Noah Snedden and junior Ben Heeren picking up the wins. The Chargers fall to 1-16 (0-14) with losses going to Caden Wardyn and Bryce Littler. ACGC also learned their playoff destination yesterday. They will make the trek to Missouri Valley to face the Big Reds on Saturday, July 7th in the first round of the Class 2A District 16 Tournament at 7pm. Raccoon Valley Radio will travel to Missouri Valley for the call. Your home for ACGC playoff baseball is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
