The legacy of a former West Central Valley teacher and coach will continue to be remembered with the inaugural Jeff Pease Flag Football Classic. While the tournament isn’t for another two months, registrations for the eight team field open on Sunday. The all-day tournament is Saturday, September 1st at the high school football stadium in Stuart.

The registration cost is $250 per team, which includes a t-shirt for each player. The registration form and fee must be submitted to reserve the spot in the field. Teams can have a maximum of twelve players total, with seven on the field at a time. High school students are not eligible and co-ed teams are welcome. There is a cash prize for 1st place and business sponsorships are available.

Tournament committee member Tom Stiles talks about the motivation behind setting up this event. “A couple months ago I had the idea of getting this together on behalf of Jeff and the family. Jeff was a staple in the community and somebody that a lot of people knew, a lot of people looked up to. So we wanted to do something for him (to) keep his legacy going. So we kind of combined two things that meant a lot to him and that was football and education.”

All proceeds will go towards college scholarships for outgoing seniors. To hear more on the tournament, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
