DOTDue to excessive rainfall the past couple of weeks, one road project between Greene and Dallas counties has been pushed back and is anticipated to start this week.

Iowa Department of Transportation Jefferson Resident Construction Engineer Jenny Hoskins says the asphalt overlay project on Iowa Highway 144 from Grand Junction to Perry was slated to begin on June 4th, but will start later this week. The project consists of some utility work along the roadway and then the entire road will be milled down before a four-inch asphalt overlay is placed on top. The project will be done in sections at a time and so Hoskins says they will have pilot cars and flaggers standing by to direct traffic. There might be temporary closures  during the project and it is slated to take about eight weeks to complete, pending any weather delays. The cost of the project is $5.9 million.

The second project in Greene County is another asphalt overlay project on Highway 4 in Jefferson from Lincoln Way north to Highway 30. Hoskins notes that project is scheduled to begin on July 30th.
