The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties.
The heat advisory is in effect from 1pm Friday afternoon through 7pm Sunday. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s throughout the weekend, with heat indexes ranging between 100 to 105-degrees. Winds will be from 15 to 25-miles-per-hour each day and the overnight lows will be in the 70s. The National Weather Service reminds everyone that strong wind gusts increase your chance of dehydration.
The National Weather Service reports that Perry’s record high for June 15th is 98-degrees, which was set in 1987. June 16th’s record high was in 1918 at 100-degrees. And June 17th’s record high for Perry was in 1913 at 96-degrees. Jefferson’s record high for June 15th is 97-degrees in 1987. June 16th’s record high was 98-degrees in 1946. June 17th’s record high was 94-degrees in 1939. Guthrie Center’s record high for June 15th is 100-degrees, set in 1970. June 16th’s record high was also in 1918 at 100-degrees. June 17th’s record high for Guthrie Center was also in 1913 of 97-degrees.
The heat advisory comes after several inches of recent rainfall. According to the National Weather Service, Perry saw 2.27-inches of rainfall this week and Guthrie Center reported 2.64-inches of rainfall. There was no information available for Jefferson. According to the US Army Corp of Engineers River Gages, no areas are reporting over flood stage activity on the Raccoon River.
