Greene County’s high school baseball team is still looking for its first Heart of Iowa Activities Conference victory following a 5-3 loss in Prairie City to PCM on Friday night. Coach John Hupp’s Rams are 0-4 in the league and 2-5 overall.
PCM’s Noah Henkenius needed just 58 pitches for a complete game victory. He threw 43 strikes, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Henkenius did not walk a batter and he recorded one strikeout.
Junior Austin Delp pitched all six innings for the Rams, giving up five earned runs on seven hits, with two walks and five strikeouts.
All of the hits for the Rams were singles. Nick Breon and Ben Wilkins each knocked in a run with their hits. Brent Riley, Wade Adcock, Tyler Teeples, Tom Gannon, and Delp, had the other base hits.
Breton Van Dyke homered and drove in two runs for the Mustangs, and Wes Cummings had two hits and two RBI.
The Rams scored first with a single run in the top of the second inning, but PCM countered with two in its half. The Mustangs took a 4-1 lead with two runs in the third. The Rams countered with two in the fourth and PCM ended the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
