acgcThe ACGC softball team entered the second week of the season with a 3-0 start and program history on the line. However, they were unable to seal their first four game winning streak in Charger history, as they came up short against the West Harrison Hawkeyes by a score of 6-4.

Cheyenne Rife got the scoring off early for the Hawkeyes with a run off a fielder’s choice to take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first. Charger junior Savana Fuller answered in the bottom portion with her second conventional home run of the season. The Hawkeyes regained the lead in the top of the third after some fielding mishaps brought Rife and Cassidy Hatcher across the plate.

The Chargers took the lead after runs in the bottom of the third and fourth respectively by Jorja Hoover, Jadeyn Carrick, and MaKayla Hoing. However, Hawkeye pitcher Emily McIntosh gave the Hawkeyes the lead for good in the top of the fifth with an RBI double bringing home Hatcher and Haley Koch.

It was also a historic night as it marked the return of senior Madison Berger. Berger, who was sidelined the entire basketball season with a knee injury, was visibly ecstatic to return to competition. Head Coach Tim O’Brien is one of the many pleased to have her back. “It means everything. She’s got so much experience being her fifth year in the program and one of our leaders. I’m just happy she’s back and I know the team is excited.”

Berger was unable to register a hit in her first game, but made several outs on the defensive end. Fuller collects her first loss of the season in the circle for the Chargers. ACGC will have a quick turnaround with a WCAC doubleheader against the Madrid Tigers tonight.
