Last month, students in Perry High School’s SkillsUSA team competed in the State Competition, and many of them advanced to the National Conference at the end of June.

A total of 32 Perry students competed in Des Moines on April 26th and 27th, and 20 of them advanced to nationals, which will be held June 25-29 in Louisville, Kentucky. The competitions are all based on displaying technical skills, and include individual events such as welding and plumbing, and group events like digital cinema production. The final list of events the Perry SkillsUSA team will compete in at nationals hasn’t been set, as students who won multiple contests must choose only one.

In addition to the competitions, a few Perry students will get to attend leadership training in Louisville. Michelle Tobar and Rylynn Gilmore were elected as new Iowa state officers for the coming school year, following in Perry’s rich tradition of representation as SkillsUSA officers. Three graduating seniors, Sadee Whitfield, T.J. Sheehy, and Daniel Brinton, have each served as Iowa officers for the past several years. The team is supervised by Industrial Technology Teachers Curt Cornelius and Calvin Smith. See below for a full list of Perry’s SkillsUSA State competition results.
