The ACGC softball team enters week two of competition with a 3-0 record. However, the opponents only get tougher as the season goes on. The Chargers will take on the 2-1 West Harrison Hawkeyes in Guthrie Center tonight.
After collecting double-digit wins in their opening two games, the Hawkeyes felt the other side of the ten-run rule with a 16-6 loss to West Monona. Through the first two games of the season, senior Cassidy Hatcher and freshmen Emily McIntosh and Haley Koch lead the way for the Hawkeye batters with twelve of the team’s 17 hits. McIntosh is the dual threat for West Harrison, as she also has a win and five strikeouts to her name in the pitcher’s circle.
While West Harrison is in the midst of a three-game road trip, ACGC begins a three-game homestand tonight. Junior pitcher Savana Fuller will likely get the start for the Chargers. Fuller is off to a great start in the circle, picking up two wins and dishing out 15 strikeouts in 13 innings of work, with just three walks.
First pitch tonight between the Chargers and the Hawkeyes is set for 7pm from Guthrie Center. You can hear live play-by-play coverage on KKRF2 and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:55.
