Yesterday marked the first full week of competition for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers baseball and softball programs. Both squads are off to fast starts this season with the Tiger baseball team winning all three of their nonconference games last week while ADM’s softball team won six of their first seven contest. The ADM softball team made it to the championship game of the Winterset Softball tournament Saturday afternoon after convincing six inning wins over Chariton (12-2) on Friday night and against Van Meter (19-6) Saturday morning. The Tigers first loss of the season came against the top-ranked Huskies in their annual tournament, 12-4. The ADM softball team returns to action today against the Perry Jayettes in Adel. Catch live play-by-play coverage of the game on 99.7 FM and AM 1310 KDLS beginning with the Perry Hy-Vee Pregame Show around 7:15 p.m.
The ADM baseball team enters the week with a 3-0 record, but the Tigers haven’t played a game in six days. High winds and a sprinkler malfunction flooded Gilbert’s High School baseball field Thursday afternoon, canceling ADM’s latest competition. Seniors are leading the way statistically for the Tiger baseball team. Nick Dufoe and Dalton Hews tie for the team lead with 10 total at bats. Hews tops the squad with five runs scored, and Dufoe leads the Tigers with four base hits. The two also have recorded one win each on the mound. Grant Curran leads the way with four runs batted in and is the only ADM senior baseball player with two stolen bases so far this season. ADM head baseball coach Jason Book has been pleased with how the seniors are helping the younger players find their way. “They’ve been able to help get guys in line and showing them what and how it needs to be done,” Book said, “Giving that most (of our seniors) have varsity experience for the last year or two, has made a huge difference for us.”
The ADM baseball team opens their Raccoon River Conference season today in Carroll. Catch live play by play coverage of the game on True Country K 107.9 and raccoonvalleyradio.com starting with the Veteran Powersports and Equipment Pregame show at 7 p.m.
