It’s Memorial Day today and the City of Jefferson has special programs going on at two cemeteries in honor of the holiday.

The program at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery will take place at 9:30am. The Jefferson VFW and American Legion will have their respective firing squads perform their “Salute to Our Fallen Heroes.” John Mobley will also perform Taps. Then the program at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery will begin at 10:45am. Following the American Flag and Lindsey “Medal of Honor” Flag raisings, a “Salute to Freedom” will be performed by the Greene County High School band. Amelia Carman will deliver her winning Patriotic Essay, and the VFW and American Legion will perform their 21-gun salute. Mobley will perform Taps to wrap up the service.

A reminder that both programs are free and open to the public.
