Perry High School

The Perry High School Class of 2018 will be receiving their diplomas this Sunday, but last week many of them received scholarships and special recognition.

On Wednesday, May 16th, the school held its annual Senior Awards Night. The scholarship awards ranged from $150 to $3,000, and came from sources such as the Perry Elks Lodge, Dallas County Hospital Foundation, and Hispanics United for Perry, and in honor of individuals such as Josh Davis, Trent Miner, and Virginia O’Brian. There were also 105 students presented with Booster Club Awards, six who received “Spirit of a Bluejay” Awards, and an assortment of individuals given departmental awards. Additionally, Karen Romero and Sidney Vancil were named Iowa Governor’s Scholar Recognition Award winners.

Perry also had its share of military scholarship honorees, including: Romero from the U.S. Marine Corps for music; Meghan Bloom from the Marine Corps for scholastic; Johanna Diw and Reece Dunlap from the Marine Corps for athletics; Alyssa Kruger and Brandon Kenyon from the U.S. Army for student-athlete; Zachary Thompson and Sydney Guerra from the Army National Guard for distinguished athlete; Gavin Boyer, Jacob Prombo, and Hannah Roberts from the National Guard for citizenship; and David Santacruz from the U.S. Air Force for science and mathematics.
