ADM Tigers

There was a lot to cheer about for Ambush Nation Wednesday night as the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers had three varsity sports in action. In Adel, the ADM Boys Soccer team opened the evening with a 3-1 victory in their Class 2A Substate 2 semifinal match against the cooperative squad of Iowa Falls Alden/AGWSR at ADM Stadium. The win sets up a rematch against the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs Saturday for a spot in the Class 2A state tournament. ADM bested DCG, 4-3, at ADM Stadium on April 23.

Over at ADM’s baseball diamond, sophomore left-hander Logan Crannel fanned 14 batters in the Tigers 10-0 victory over the Earlham Cardinals in six innings. Crannell pitched a complete game shutout, scattering two hits and walking two Cardinal batters. Senior Ethan Meyer went 3-3 at the plate with three runs batted in to help lead the Tigers offensively. The win improves ADM to 3-0 on the season; the Tigers return to competition tonight in a road contest at Gilbert.

The Raccoon Valley Radio Network followed the ADM softball program to Carroll for their Raccoon River Conference opener versus the Tigers. As heard live on True Country K 107.9, raccoonvalleyradio.com and the KKRF mobile app, sophomore pitcher Abbie Hlas registered a career-high 16 strikeouts in a 12-1 victory over Carroll. The Tigers did reach base on one strikeout in the third inning on a dropped third strike and wild throw to first. On the Fullers Petroleum Postgame Show, Hlas talked about bouncing back from giving up back-to-back hits and a run to start the game. “When they (drove in that first run), you just got to be mentally tough and get the next (girl out). It gives you extra motivation to get the job done because your team needs you. So I put up a good face, and decided I was going to get (the rest of them out).”

Hlas, named the Dallas County Farm Bureau Player of the Game, helped herself at the plate with a pair of hits, two runs scored, and a stolen base as well. The victory improves the ADM softball team to 3-0 on the season. The Tigers return to Adel to host the Clarke Indians tonight.
