With Memorial Day coming up on Monday, there are special programs planned for both cemeteries in Jefferson.
The day begins with a program at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. There will be a “Salute to Our Fallen Heroes” with a firing squad from the Jefferson VFW and American Legion posts. John Mobley will then perform Taps. The service begins at 9:30am.
The next program will take place at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery. The Jefferson Fire Department will raise the American Flag and the Lindsey “Medal of Honor” Flag. Then the Greene County High School band will perform “Salute to Freedom” followed by the invocation from Pastor Dennis Martens. The Memorial Day Address will be from this year’s Patriotic Essay Winner Amelia Carman. The high school band will then perform the “National Anthem” followed by the firing squad from VFW and American Legion posts. The program will wrap up with the playing of Taps by Mobley. The service begins at 10:45am.
Both programs are free and open to the public.
