sTEP waveLocal law enforcement have increased their presence during the current special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) for the Memorial Day holiday.

From now through June 3rd, is the national “Click It or Ticket It” campaign and the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is focusing their efforts, in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, to look for motorists that aren’t wearing their seat belts. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports in 2016 that there were 10,428 unbuckled individuals in vehicles that were killed in the country. The NHTSA notes that number is more than about 99.5-percent of cities in Iowa.

The Jefferson Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s office reminds everyone to always wear a seat belt when traveling in a vehicle because it is the law.
