We’ve all heard of end-of-year field days for students, but Perry Middle School is putting a different spin on that concept for their 7th graders this year.

This coming Thursday, students will participate in their own version of “The Hunger Games.” Though the competitions are all based around survival skills, there’s no need to worry that the event will look too much like the movie it’s named after. The 7th graders have been split up into regions, having already completed the academic and citizen portions of the competition. The festivities will begin with Opening Ceremonies at 12:30 p.m., followed by the athletic events, all of which will be held at the Dewey Athletic Complex.

The different competitions include: shelter building, hand-to-hand combat, camouflage, archery, a “poison berry” activity, knot tying, spear throwing, blow darts, and a scavenger hunt. The 7th Grade Hunger Games will be held Thursday, May 24th, and families are encouraged to watch the events and cheer on their “tributes.”
