Greene County senior Rachael Danielson finished as the Region 1B girls’ golf runner-up medalist on Monday at the Ida Grove Golf & Country Club by shooting 83 for 18 holes. That performance earned the two-time State qualifier the opportunity to get back to State with a trip to the Region 1 final at Mapleton’s Willow Vale Golf Course on May 21.
Annika Patton of Alta-Aurelia was meet medalist at 80. Delany Conrad of Southeast Valley (Gowrie) was six shots behind Danielson with 89.
A-A won the team title at Ida Grove with 379 strokes, followed by 409 for both MVAOCOU (Mapleton) and Greene County. The host team from OABCIG was fourth at 422, followed by South Central Calhoun (Lake City) 440, Southeast Valley 450, Cherokee 454, and East Sac County (Lake View) 473.
Heath Telleen is Greene County’s girls’ golf coach. He explained that when teams tie for second place in the regional, the first tie-breaker is the score of the fifth golfer, and that went to MVAOCOU.
Ida Grove hosted Region 1B. Region 1A was held at Sioux Center with Unity Christian (Orange City) and West Lyon (Inwood) the teams that advanced.
