The previous two girls’ golf seasons saw Rachael Danielson of Greene County High School qualify for the Class 3A State Tournament. The Rams play the postseason down one class in size to 2A, starting today. Danielson and her teammates travel to Ida Grove for 18 holes in a first round regional. One difference between 3A and 2A is that in 3A there is only one day of regional golf, then the qualifiers advance so the State tournament. In 2A, those advancing will play in the regional final on May 21. Qualifiers from the regional final, then move on to the State tournament.

Coach Heath Telleen has hopes not only Danielson, but the entire team can advance beyond today. The coach and Danielson have carefully managed her playing time this season due to the seniors’ continued rehab and recovery from repeated knee surgeries. Danielson didn’t play a competitive round until the season was well underway, plus she hasn’t played on consecutive days. There have been other injuries and illnesses at time, which have kept the Rams from having the minimum number of four players on at least two occasions.

The Greene County coach said he believes the Rams will be at full strength today.
