It’s National Nurses Week this week and Greene County Medical Center once again marked the occasion with the annual DAISY Award.

The DAISY Award is given to a nurse that shows extraordinary care. There were ten nominees for the bi-annual award and Acute Care Nurse Gina Geisler was selected as the winner. Any nurse can be nominated by a co-worker, medical center staff, a patient, the patient’s family or anyone in the community. Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt says they made a couple of new additions to the ceremony by inviting former medical center nurses who are now residents in the Long Term Care unit, as well as inviting another group of people.

“We invited those who nominated our DAISY nominees to come and read the nominations if they wanted to and if they were available to do so. That creates a little more buzz and it’s very meaningful when you’re a DAISY nominee and you have the person who nominated you reading the nomination itself. It’s a heartfelt thing.”
