The ACGC girls track and field team had one final opportunity Monday to improve their performances ahead of tomorrow’s State Qualifying meet in Van Meter. The team didn’t disappoint as they finished fourth at the Nevada Cub Classic at Nevada High School.
Mady McDermott and Mady Kelsey both had top-8 performances in both the shot put and discus. McDermott won both events, throwing the shot 37-1.5 and discus 111-5.5. Kelsey placed third in the shot with 32-10.5 and eighth in the discus with 87-1.
Kate Crawford also took three top three finishes, winning the 3000 at 10:57.76, placing 2nd in the 1500 at 5:05.70, and coming in 3rd in the 800 at 2:32.19. Sara Schmeling rounded out the event winners for the Charger girls, taking the long jump title with a jump of 16-6.5. Other top four finishes include: Emma Swanson in the 3000 (3rd), Mady Smith in the 100 meter hurdles (4th), and the 4×800 and distance medley relay teams (3rd).
Both the boys and the girls will run in the Class 2A District 8 State Qualifying Meet in Van Meter tomorrow night. Participating schools in this district also include: Clarke, Colfax-Mingo, Des Moines Christian, I-35, Mount Ayr, Panorama, Pleasantville, Van Meter, West Central Valley, Woodward Academy, and Woodward-Granger.
