Tuesday afternoon at Greene County High School girls’ track & field practice, head coach Derek Merk was asked what his lineup for the Thursday, May 10 Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Manson would be. The Rams have a two-time state champion and two-time Drake Relays champion in high jumper Megan Durbin. She’s also a very fine sprinter and nearly any relay she runs in would have a chance to qualify for the May 17-18-19 Coed State Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. “I said earlier in the season that we’d have some depth, so we’re still trying to decide who we want in some of the different relay spots. We also need to make sure there’s plenty of space between the different races and they’ll have sufficient rest and will be able to run their best. It’s still kind of a work in progress, but we’ll know by tonight (Tuesday).”
The Greene County boys’ head coach is Chad Morton. He, too, has several events that will have opportunities to qualify for State. That includes field events, relays, and individual running events.
Starting time in Manson is 4 p.m. tomorrow.
