While a team’s top four individual scores are the ones that count in Iowa high school golf, the performance of the remaining two golfers can decide your placement in the final standings should two teams end in a tie. The fifth-place golfer on the Panorama girls golf team helped the squad secure their first 18 hole win of the season last Thursday in the Woodward-Granger Girls Invitational at the Woodward Golf and Country Club.
The Panthers top four scores from Madi Fear (103), Lauren McClatchey (106), Jordan Douglass (108), and Anna Duis (108) added up to 425 points. The mark tied the Panthers with the Ballard Bombers for first place in the eight-team tournament, and the rules say the first tiebreaker is whoever’s team records a lower fifth score wins the tournament. Panorama freshman Abby Cobb scored a 110, besting Ballard’s fifth-place golfer Brandelle McGinn by 15 strokes. Cobb spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio after the meet and analysed about her performance. “My first round was really awesome and my second round was ok,” Cobb said.
Cobb adds one area of her golf game she’d like to improve is her putting. The Panorama girls golf team competes today in the West Central Activities Conference tournament at the Lakeview Country Club in Winterset.
