Jesus ZunigaA Jefferson teen was recently sentenced to probation for a December incident.

According to court documents, 19-year-old Jesus Moises Zuniga pled guilty to a Class D Felony for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. He had his five-year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years.

The sentence stems from a December 29, 2017 incident when the Jefferson Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of North Oak Street. Several drug-related items were recovered with the warrant.

The probation sentence was to run consecutively with three other convicted cases of third degree burglary, distribution of a controlled substance to a minor and third degree burglary and carrying weapons. All three incidents happened in 2017 and in each case, probation was the sentence. As part of the sentence, Zuniga agreed to be held in a residential correctional facility until maximum benefits were reached, undergo a substance abuse treatment program and report to the facility when the probation warrants. He was also ordered to pay $135 in surcharges, plus court costs.

A second suspect in the case, 20-year-old Justin Ray Lopez of Jefferson, has pled not guilty at his arraignment hearing and has another hearing scheduled for May 11th.
