Greene County took four events to the Dallas Center-Grimes Fillies track & field meet Tuesday in an effort to qualify for the Drake Relays and set season bests. Coach Derek Merk saw senior Megan Durbin, the 2016 Drake Relays champion and 2017 runner-up, automatically qualify for next week’s Relays with a season best leap of 5′ 7″. That’s just one inch off her career best of 5′ 8″, which she set in 2016 when she won the event at the Drake Relays. The 5′ 7″ clearance ties her for the best jump among Iowa high school girls this season.

The Rams had three relays compete and all three ran season best times. The 4 x 100 ran 52.29 seconds with junior Melanie Doran, freshman Brianna Osterson, freshman Liily Muir, and Durbin. The Drake Relays accept 80 4 x 100 relays and the Rams entered the night at number 92. They took more than a second off their previous best time, so they are likely to move up in the rankings. Their final chance to solidify their place in the top 80 comes tomorrow in the Carroll Tiger/Kuemper Catholic Knight Relays held in Denison due to renovations at Carroll Athletic Field. All performances relating to Drake Relays qualification must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Thursday. Drake events for high school athletes are April 26-27-28.

The other other relays at DC-G were the sprint medley with Doran, Muir, Osterson, and Durbin, and the 4 x 200 with Doan, Osterson, freshman Makayla Kafer, and Durbin.
