The deadline for Iowa high school track & field performances to be submitted for Drake Relays qualification is 11:59 p.m. this Thursday night. The Greene County Ram Relays have been cancelled, leaving the Rams just one meet before the deadline to improve performances and qualify for the prestigious event. Greene County goes to the Carroll/Kuemper Catholic Tiger/Knight Relays on Thursday. The event is being held in Denison due to renovations of Carroll Athletic Field.
As is stood early Monday evening, senior Megan Durbin was tied for eighth place in the girls’ high jump at 5′ 4″. Seven jumpers have cleared the automatic standard of 5′ 5″. Drake accepts 24 high school girls in the high jump.
There are 80 girls 4 x 100 meter relay units and 80 for boys that qualify for Drake. The Greene County girls stood at number 92 early Monday evening while the boys’ time of 45.20 seconds put them in the 59th spot. Carter Morton, Lance Hughes, Tyler Teeples, and Colby Kafer ran that time last Thursday in Des Moines at Saydel High School.
The list of high school qualifiers for the Drake Relays is scheduled to be released early Saturday afternoon. High school events at Drake are next Thursday through Saturday, April 26, 27, and 28, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
