It was a great night for track and field last night as the ACGC girls hosted the Lady Charger Invitational in Guthrie Center. The Charger girls nearly claimed the team title, falling just one point shy of the top slot. Panorama won the team title with 153 points, while ACGC scored an impressive 152 for second place.

As for the individual performances, Mady McDermott continued her launch towards the Drake Relays in a couple weeks. She smashed her own record with a throw of 38 feet, five and a half inches. Her previous personal best was 37 feet, one inch. She currently has the 18th best throw in the state, which would qualify her for the Relays.

Kate Crawford, another Charger currently eligible for Drake, claimed another title in the 1500 with a time of 5:16.68. Crawford, who currently sits 15th in the state in the 3000, hopes this can be her year to make the cut for the blue oval. “Well last year I was kind of heartbroken that I wasn’t able to qualify, so that was my main goal for this year. I’m really hoping to achieve that in these next few weeks.”

The Charger girls swept the top two spots in both the 1500 and the 3000. Senior Emma Swanson  crossed the line behind Crawford in the 1500 and won the gold in the 3000 earlier in the evening. The girls distance medley also claimed gold in Guthrie Center with a time of 4:37.11. The girls will head to Bondurant-Farrar for the Bluejay Relays on Monday.
