With Greene County joining the Central Iowa Community Services (CICS) Mental Health Region, a new service will be available for county residents.

CICS CEO Jody Eaton mentioned to the Greene County Board of Supervisors at a recent meeting the launching of their Mobile Crisis Centers. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio how the service works.

“Teams of two are dispatched to individuals in the community if they are in a crisis situation. And then they will do an assessment with them and help determine what is needed for that individual.”

Eaton says that law enforcement could also utilize the service to aide in some of their situations that they respond to.

“That was the first few calls that we had from the Jasper County area was from law enforcement asking to have mobile response come out. They were very thrilled having them come there. They felt like they had deescalated the situation to the point where they could leave, but still weren’t real comfortable with where the individual was.”

Greene County chose to leave Heart of Iowa Community Services last year and will officially become a voting member of the CICS region on July 1st.
