The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in special session.

The meeting began with the Board canvassing the votes from last Tuesday’s bond referendum election, in which the outcome remained the same at 68-percent approval. The Board approved a resolution to authorizing the issuing of and not to exceed $21.48 million in general obligation bonds and levying tax for the payment of it.

The public hearing was then held for the 2018-19 fiscal year budget. Superintendent Tim Christensen said the proposed tax levy was $12.69 per $1,000 valuation. With the bond passing, the district needed to add $2.70 to the tax levy. However, Christensen pointed out that they lowered the $12.69 to $12.50 by decreasing the cash reserve levy from $345,500 to $262,000 and the management fund from $358,700 to $350,000. Both accounts are controlled by the Board. The Board approved the budget with a total tax levy of $15.21, after adding the additional $2.70.Greene County School Board 4_11

The meeting then ended in a closed session to discuss the purchase of the 80-acres of land needed for the new high school and career academy on Highway 30.
