Third time’s a charm for the Greene County School District as the bond referendum passed with 68-percent of the vote.
According to the Greene County Auditor’s office, the unofficial results of the $21.48 million bond referendum to build a new high school and regional career academy passed with 68.68-percent of the vote, with 1,960 “yes” votes to 894 “no” votes. The Jefferson precinct had 75.84-percent of voters passed the measure with 1,604. Grand Junction precinct had only 45.63-percent “yes” votes, while Scranton precinct voted 52.59-percent in favor. The bond needed a super majority, at least 60-percent, in order to pass.
Our Kids, Our Future Greene County Committee Co-Chair Keith Van Beek talked about his initial reaction when he found out that the vote had passed.
“Excited. Excited for the future of the school district. I think this is a game changer for years to come. We put our hearts and souls into this. I think that shows in the turnout and the percentage. Ultimately this couldn’t have happened without all these great people we had working together, and ultimately what Chris Deal did bringing this great idea, this wouldn’t have even been a possibility without him bringing that. I’m proud of all these people around me. It’s a great way to finish it off.”
The voter turnout was 51.74-percent with 2,854 ballots cast of the 5,516 registered voters in the school district. The election results are unofficial until the Greene County Board of Supervisors canvass the votes this Friday at 10am. For full results, click the link below.
