The Greene County High School Junior-Senior Prom is this Saturday.
This year’s theme is “Starry Night” and will feature several night time decorations such as: large glowing stars, lamp posts, benches, and a cut-out of a large half-moon. A banquet and the dance will once again be held at the Greene Room events center at Wild Rose in Jefferson. The public is invited to view the decorations from 4 to 5:30pm. Then at 6pm will be the grand march as “A Walk to Remember.” There’s been a change in venue for the grand march from the courthouse to the high school auditorium. Junior Class President Brock Wuebker explains why they wanted to make the change.
“The reason for this is because of weather. It’s suppose to be breezier and a chance of rain is in the forecast, so for safety of everyone we decided to move it in. If the theater is full, to accommodate everyone, people can line up in the hallways to take pictures too.”
Students will then head to the Greene Room for a taco bar banquet meal with the theme of “Dining and Dancing Under the Stars” before the dance begins at 8pm. Wuebker says during the meal, students were asked to contribute photos to share in a powerpoint presentation.
“So what they can do is send pictures from their childhood or just where they are at right now in high school. That will be playing the whole time during the banquet and really just to get everyone involved who’s at prom. You see everyone’s childhood and really get good laughs and recognize everyone who is at prom.”
The evening wraps up with after prom and the theme of “Moonlight Memories” at the middle school gym. The doors will close at midnight and will include several games and a hypnotist. After prom will end with breakfast and drawings for prizes from 2:30 to 3am Sunday morning.
