Only one group of track athletes benefited from this week’s temperatures in the low to mid 40’s. Long distance runners favor colder temperatures to help regulate body heat, including athletes running in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter runs. The climate was cloudy with temperatures in the mid 40’s Tuesday evening during the Earlham Early Bird Invitational where West Central Valley’s Louden Foster placed third overall in the 2 mile run with a time of 11:01.28. Although he was shooting for a time below 11 minutes, he like Tuesday’s weather conditions. “40’s is good,” Foster said, “You’re cold for the first few laps, but then you warm up.”
The West Central Valley boys track team will resume their season Tuesday, competing at East Union Schools. The forecast for Afton on Tuesday calls for a 40 percent chance of precipitation and a high temperature in the low to mid 40’s.
