North Polk (Alleman) easily won the boys’ team title with Greene County in second place on Tuesday in Jefferson at the Greene County Early Bird track & field meet. The Comets had 146 points to 96 for the Rams. Southeast Valley (Cowrie) was third at 89, followed by Ft. Dodge St. Edmond 64, Ogden 34, and Paton-Churdan 17. It was the first outdoor meet of the season for the Rams.
Carter Morton had the lone event victory for the Rams when he and teammate Kolin Reed both went 5′ 8″ in the high jump. Reed was second. There were seven other runner-up finishes for coach Chad Morton’s team. Morton was the runner-up in the 110 meter high hurdles in 16.16 seconds. Colby Kafer was second in the long jump at 19′ 1/2″ and he was second in the 100 meter dash in 11.93 seconds. Noah Bowen placed second in the 1,600 meter run in 4:53.39, a school record for the six seasons competing as Greene County. The shuttle hurdle relay was second in 1:08.45 with Austin Delp, Nick Breon Brandon Bollig, and Morton. The 4 x 400 meter relay ran 3:45.20 to place second with Morton, Brent Riley, Lance Hughes, and Kafer, and the distance medley was second with Clint Dennhardt, Tyler Teeples, Delp, and Bowen, in 4:02.54.
P-C finished second twice. Connor Brus was runner-up in the 800 meter run in 2:21.48, and the Rockets were second in the 4 x 800 meter relay in 9:29.67 with Jon Thede, Forest Thompson, Brus, and Eric Thompson.
The Greene County boys travel to Winterset for a boys’ only meet on Friday, March 30.
