A senior at West Central Valley Community Schools chose to continue his running career at an in-state institution last month. Alex Kalbach on February 19 signed with Graceland University of Lamoni to run cross country and track and field next year. Kalbach spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio over the weekend about his decision and he said he chose Graceland over William Penn, and a few out of state schools in part due to the Yellowjackets facilities. “Our high school use to run a high school indoor meet at Graceland University,” Kalbach said, “I liked the facilities, and everyone there seemed nice that was helping out for the college. The coaches (at Graceland) got in contact with me early last year, and we talked, and I decided Graceland was the right choice.”

Staying in Iowa for college was another reason why Kalbach decided to go Graceland. Kalbach was originally recruited by Graceland to run sprints but he’s transitioning himself into a middle distance runner this spring and they Yellowjacket coaching staff is on board with his decision. Hear an interview with Kalbach on the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page, tonight at 6 p.m. on True Country K 107.9.
