Starting Monday, the State of Iowa will observe Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Each day focuses on a different aspect of severe weather in Iowa as we enter storm season. Monday’s topic will be severe thunderstorms and their hazards, which include lightning, high winds, and hail. Tuesday will focus on the methods of receiving severe weather warnings, such as weather radios, tornado sirens, and text notifications from the National Weather Service. The topic for Wednesday is tornadoes, and the day will include a statewide tornado drill. Cities and media outlets across the state, including Raccoon Valley Radio, will participate in the drill, which will run from 10-11 a.m.
Thursday’s focus will be on family preparedness, and the week will conclude Friday with flooding as the topic. Make sure to listen to Raccoon Valley Radio throughout the week with stories and interviews for each day to cover Severe Weather Awareness Week. Additionally, we will have a live Severe Weather Action Team drill on Wednesday to coincide with the statewide tornado drill.
