The Jefferson Streets/Water and Sanitation/Sewer committee met Tuesday.
The meeting started with a presentation and discussion with the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) Executive Co-Chairs Matt and Toni Wetrich. Preliminary plans were shared of how the downtown square may look when bike riders come into Jefferson for the overnight stop on July 23rd. The RAGBRAI committee would like to put the stage for Hairball diagonally across the intersection of State and Chestnut streets. They would also like to have East Lincoln Way from Wilson Avenue to Chestnut Street blocked off to traffic and then completely closed when all bikers arrive by 7pm. Other areas discussed were sections of streets being barricaded off to traffic.
Due to Landus Cooperative purchasing the former Microsoy facility, the committee will recommend that the City Council rename Microsoy Drive to Stanford Street for the road that is located east to west by the facility. The committee also decided to wait until the City receives adjusted gross income funds from Wild Rose to purchase two pedestrian signal crossings that will be installed near the intersection of Vine Street and Lincoln Way.
Finally, the committee decided to make a policy change to deposits for water service. The committee decided that the City would put a permanent hold on a property owner’s $150 deposit, for new accounts, until the account was completely closed out.
