Springtime weather in Iowa is unpredictable from day-to-day, and it makes it difficult for high school golf teams preparing for the upcoming season. The Adel-Desoto-Minburn boys and girls golf teams are fortunate enough to have a climate controlled facility in Minburn to practice in on days where it’s cold and cloudy. Bob Hall is entering his second season as an assistant coach for both ADM golf programs, and he says having the indoor facility is a huge benefit to their athletes. “When you’re out on the golf course dressed up in cold weather clothing, bulky coats and pants, it cannot enhance your swing or your golf game.” Hall said, “Whereas, if you are inside our Minburn facility, it allows you to golf in a manner in which you’ll be the most comfortable doing. One where you aren’t hindered with additional clothing.”

Hall adds when you golf in a bulky coat, it negatively affects the backswing and follow through of a person’s tee and mid-iron shot. He says bulky pants on the golf course hinders the drive from a person’s legs and can affect the distance and location of a shot. The ADM girls golf season begins with a tournament next Saturday at the Warrior Run Golf Course in Norwalk. The ADM boys open their competition year in a nonconference quadrangular meet Thursday, April 5 at the Indian Creek Country Club in Nevada.
