acgcYesterday the IHSAA finalized football schedules across the state. The ACGC Chargers will open their 2018 campaign in Guthrie Center on August 24th, with a familiar foe in IKM-Manning. The other opponents in order include: Woodward Academy, Nodaway Valley, Tri-Center, Van Meter, Clarinda, West Central Valley, Panorama, and Mount Ayr.

Of this fall’s nine opponents, ACGC has faced three: IKM-Manning, Tri-Center, and West Central Valley. The Chargers lost all three of those games last fall, including an opening week thriller against the Wildcats. The first four games are non-conference, followed by five district games. For the second straight season, the Chargers will have five road and four home games. With the exception of Van Meter and IKM-Manning, every opponent this season had a losing record the previous season. Six of the nine opponents are also Class 1A schools, including the Clarinda Cardinals, a 2A school in 2017. The three non-Class 1A opponents are the IKM-Manning Wolves, the Tri-Center Trojans, and the Nodaway Valley Wolverines, all in Class A.

The Chargers will also make a highly anticipated competitive debut against Guthrie County rival Panorama. The two teams met in a scrimmage before their respective 2017 seasons, but haven’t faced each other in a regular season match since Adair-Casey joined Guthrie Center in athletics.
