The City of Perry can now officially say what its budget will look like for the next year.
At the most recent Perry City Council meeting, there was a public hearing to discuss the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2019. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson gave an overview of the budget, as well as the tax levy rate, which was set at $17.87 per $1,000 of assessed value. No one from the public spoke during the hearing, so the Council approved the certified budget, which will now be submitted to the state and county.
Peterson says creating the budget is a difficult task every year, and it’s always exciting when they can wrap it up. He’s complimentary of Finance Director Susie Morehead for the work she put in on the budget. He was also thankful for the efforts of the department heads, who are the ones who essentially shape the budget each year. “Our department heads are really great. Nobody ever asks for anything crazy, over-the-top type of stuff. Everybody pretty much knows the resources we have to work with, and they stay within that.”
Perry’s budget is around $10 million each year, and Peterson says they stayed well within their means this year while still giving themselves the opportunity to tackle many different projects.
