national weather serviceThe National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of our listening area.

The winter weather advisory will be in effect from 9pm Monday through 3pm Tuesday for Greene and Guthrie counties. The National Weather Service is predicting one to three-inches of snowfall with the advisory. There may also be blowing snow causing reduced visibility, especially during the morning commute. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reminds motorists to drive to the conditions of the road and recommends not passing when roads are slick.

“I would definitely not suggest passing, especially if we get two to three-inches of snow. If it’s warm or it’s slushy, the slushy and heavier snow will cause you to lose control faster. In the center or in between the two lanes always has more snow than the actual driving lanes do, which will cause you to lose control if you’re going to pass somebody.”

Plow crews may also be out clearing the roads of snow and slush and motorists are encouraged to “not crowd the plow.” Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides road condition updates, as well as the latest cancellation and postponement information during the winter season.
