smoke alarm

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, which means everyone will be setting their clocks forward one hour.

In addition to the time change, Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds says it’s also a good time of year to ensure your emergency alerting devices are properly functioning. “So we’re going to ‘spring ahead’ an hour. And while we’re setting that clock, let’s pull that battery out of the smoke detector and change that, so that it always has a fresh battery in there. Same thing goes for your carbon monoxide detectors. So that when there is a fire or a hazardous situation in your home, your alerting device is ready to go and will let you know and keep you safe.”

Hinds adds, you should change your alarm batteries twice a year, and the beginning and end of Daylight Saving Time make for good reminders every year to do so. Daylight Saving Time will end on November 4th.
