The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
The location of the public hearing for a proposed hog confinement was moved from the boardroom to the main courtroom on the third floor of the courthouse, due to over 50 people in attendance. Ten people spoke out against the confinement in section 26 of Greenbrier Township and two people spoke in favor of it. The hog confinement is owned by Oakview Pork LLC with Megan Carman and Nick Miller, and received a master matrix score of 450 points. The minimum score needed is 440. Supervisor Chair John Muir also presented seven letters that were received opposing the confinement.
After an almost 90-minute public hearing, the Board voted unanimously in favor of the project and recommended construction of the confinement to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, with the comments, concerns and letters that were discussed during the public hearing. The vote was 4 to 0, with Supervisor Mick Burkett absent from the meeting.
The Board also approved to dispose of .352-acres of county land to Jerry Kelley for no cash consideration. Conservation Director Dan Towers said the acres were in Kelley’s property, but he is also going to deed over 18-acres of his property near Anderson Park to the county, as part of his will. Additionally, the Board approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for February of $15,548.
