IMG_2143Today is Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. The staff at Panorama Elementary decided to celebrate his legacy and literature the night before. Last night, Panorama Elementary families gathered at the school for Dr. Seuss LIteracy Night. The evening began with a meal fit for the Cat in the Hat. The meal included green eggs and ham, hash browns, muffins, and beverages. After the meal, each grade level went to a classroom and participated in reading activities. The event concluded with a series of drawings.

Panorama Elementary Reading Teacher Patty Meinecke tells Raccoon Valley Radio they weren’t expecting quite a large crowd but were pleasantly surprised by the turnout. Meinecke talks about the importance of having these events as part of establishing healthy early reading habits. “I think it’s good to get the family involved. We’re going to teach them some strategies and things they can do at home. Just to really encourage reading within the family. I think they’re really excited about it.”

While Dr. Seuss may not be the program’s yearly theme going forward, Meinecke says they will continue to host events like these that promote literacy at the elementary.
